Desktop Background – January 2013

Recession (January 2013 Desktop Background) - Silhouette of power lines against a sunset

We’ve turned that proverbial page once again and are staring down the barrel of another year. In case you missed my new year resolutions post this year, I am turning my focus toward better interaction and fun stuff for all of you readers and followers here on the blog.

With that in mind, I have a whole new stock of monthly desktop backgrounds for you to download and share on your favorite electronic devices including smartphones and tablets!

I’ve decided to switch up the format a bit, though. Instead of offering the background in a variety of sizes, I’m going to be offering a few “universal” background sizes that should accommodate most screen sizes. As always, if you find that you need a specific size, let me know in the comments and I’ll be happy to accommodate!

  • All these backgrounds are free because I’m a nice guy. Not only are they copyrighted, but I’m friends with Chuck Norris so please do the math and don’t do bad things with them.

If you’ve followed the blog for any length of time, you know that I try to choose desktop backgrounds that tie in well with the season or month they are offered. So what does a sunset with some power lines have to do with January? Well, I took this photograph during this time of year… that’s why!

I was on my way back home from northern Illinois and decided to take my usual back roads route to the house. I had passed by these power lines many times during my travels across Illinois for work, but as anyone from Illinois can attest, there’s something amazing about a Midwestern sunset during the bone-chilling cold of winter.

I was so captivated by the colors and the way the power lines receded into the distance that I pulled over, popped the trunk, and grabbed my tripod and dSLR. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any gloves with me and the wind was frigid. I was able to snap off four or five shots before I gave up and jumped back in the warmth of the car.

When I finally pulled the images up at home, I knew I had something worth sharing and I’m glad I’m able to pass this background along for your enjoyment.
