Desktop Background – May 2012
Holy cow… I’m such a bad photoblogger this month. I was so wrapped up in my Washington, DC saga that I was sharing with all of you that I totally missed this month’s downloadable background.
This image, entitled “Some Beach,” was actually shot during a portrait session a few years ago. Amazingly enough, I remember that it was on St. Patrick’s Day of all things. How did I remember that? Well, the portrait session was just a practice shoot with one of my good friends, Lisa, who volunteered to model for me.
But, Mike, what does that have to do with St. Pat’s? Well, I’m glad you asked because Lisa is one of the few redheads I know and she decided to wear a green sweater for the shoot to tie in with the holiday. I seem to latch on to minor details like that.
Anyway, the shoot was pretty quick as it was chilly along the Illinois River. We shot at Water Works Park in Peoria. The water, as you can see, was pretty high at the time so we didn’t have too much room to move around. We shot a few images with Lisa on the rocks and I practiced some one light Strobist techniques. While Lisa made her way up the rocks toward the cars, I couldn’t help myself; I snapped a few shots of the blue water and the falling sun hitting the infamous “Graffiti Rock” sticking out of the water.
While it isn’t a standard “beautiful” landscape image, I find something so raw and real in this shot every time I look at it. With summer around the corner, you should spend some time hanging out on this beach in anticipation of the coming days when you can dip your toes in that water as I do every year.
Please Note: I’m trusting all of you with these images. They are copyrighted, but I wish they didn’t have to be. With that in mind, please use them for their intended purpose and please don’t “steal” them; stealing is bad. Thanks!
