Joining the Washington, Illinois Chamber of Commerce

Every year, I make a set of photography resolutions to help build and develop my vision. One of this year’s resolutions was to try new marketing ideas for building my business. I’ve put together a number of things including monthly and seasonal promotions, a monthly email newsletter, and social media giveaways and discounts.

For the past few years, I’ve been thinking about joining a local Chamber of Commerce and this year felt like the right time to do it. When I lived in Peoria, Illinois, I looked at joining the Peoria Chamber of Commerce, but found that the cost was out of my price range at the time.

Washington, Illinois Chamber of Commerce Ceremony

Joining the Washington, Illinois Chamber of Commerce

When I moved back in December, I stopped by the Washington, Illinois Chamber of Commerce offices and met with the staff to discuss what they had to offer small businesses. What I found was tremendous; Washington, Illinois is all about supporting local business so the Chamber of Commerce keeps their overhead and fees down while offering more opportunities for marketing, advertising, sponsorships, and anything else you can name for local business owners to help grow and prosper in the area.

So… I’m proud to say that a few weeks ago, I had my official plaque ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce staff and board members. I’m so proud to be a part of this city and this organization; I look forward to a prosperous partnership with them moving forward.

Upcoming Events – Boardwalks & Blooms

I don’t know about you, but this summer is really running away from me. Just when I think I have a few weeks to get some work done, I look at the calendar and I see art fairs, markets, shoots, shows, gigs, dinners, and that’s just this week!

Well, for those who might have a bit of free time on their calendars this weekend, check these two great upcoming events and make sure to say hello when you see me!

Artists on the Boardwalk (Friday)

This Friday evening, from 4 to 8 p.m., I am back on the boardwalk at Junction City here in Peoria. If you haven’t attended before, you are in for a treat. Local artists and craft folk will be set up along the boardwalk in front of the shops and pubs and live music will be playing.

This is a great way to grab a glass of wine, browse some local art (Christmas is only six months away now, you know!), and forget about the week you just had. Oh… did I mention that there is amazing food places as well? Don’t say I never did anything for you!

Rhapsody in Bloom Art Festival (Saturday/Sunday)

Production (2012)

Production (2012)

I am so excited to share this event as it will be my very first Rhapsody in Bloom Art Festival this weekend. This festival is held in the beautiful Luthy Botanical Gardens on the east side of Peoria. Many of my artist friends will be in attendance, peddling their wares, and there is live music and culinary delights to enjoy as well.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. onĀ  Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday so make sure to stop out. Fair warning… there is a $3.00 fee for admittance for those over the age of 12. Oh yeah… got kids? Bring them too… not only do they get in free, but there is an awesome children’s art area. Plus they tell me that the Luthy rose garden will be in full bloom… how can you say no?

Hope you find a little time this weekend to stop out and say hello and show some love for local artists.

P.S. I am currently matting a whole load of new prints for the booth and have even more canvas wraps plus aluminum (you know… like the metal!) prints as well!

Shows, Galleries, & Events… Oh My!

Exhibit A Gallery

Exhibit A Gallery Wall

Exhibit A Gallery Wall

With the summer art fair season wrapping up quickly over the past month or so, I’ve been busy looking at alternatives to presenting my fine art images to the local market. I’m happy to report that I’m putting together enough galleries and showings over the winter months to keep this fine art ball rolling.

I’m especially happy to announce that thanks to the generosity of Barb at Exhibit A Gallery here in Peoria, I have my first real gallery space. Okay… it’s not so much a space as it is a wall, but I’ll take what I can get. As you can see from the image, I’ve got a number of framed pieces available for purchase so head on out to Junction City in northern Peoria to browse around Exhibit A. Even if you aren’t a fan of my images, Barb keeps a whole collection of local art of all shapes, sizes, and styles.

You know what’s even better? This Friday, November 4th is the 6th Annual Junction City Holiday Open House/Boardwalk. It’s a perfect time to see all of the fun things that Junction City has to offer including the local arts at Exhibit A Gallery!

While you’re out at Junction City, stop by Three Paths Massage Therapy, located in the small building to the south of the main complex, and visit my awesome massage therapist, Jenna. She was also kind enough to let me drop my collection of matted 4″ by 6″ prints off at her business for sale. These make for excellent holiday gifts so make sure to check it out!

Studios on Sheridan – Grand Opening

Also on Friday, November 4th, I’ll be stationed at the brand new artist studios and gallery on Sheridan Road, the Studios on Sheridan! I took a tour of this place last week and I’m so excited to see this empty space becoming a real working artist studio and gallery. Come on out and help us break in this new space and get some holiday shopping done while you’re at it as well!

Peoria Art Guild 8×8 Show

Another exciting event, on Friday, November 11th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. is the Peoria Art Guild’s Annual 8×8 Show. I’m so excited to be a part of this awesome event and have been for the past three years. Not only does the money go toward charity, but the event is so unique, anyone will tell you it’s one not to miss!

Every piece is only 8 inches by 8 inches, but in a wide range of mediums. For those pieces who haven’t been bought via the “reserve price” listed, an auctioneer starts the bidding off on ALL PIECES at the same price. Every few minutes, the price drops. Whoever grabs the piece off the wall first at the price level receives that piece for that price. When the prices get to $100 or less, it becomes a madhouse!

Special Deal

If you attend any of the events in this post and email me a snapshot from that event, I’ll email you back a special discount code for my print shop for 25% off your order!
